Hi All,

I have been cycling for about 8 weeks now. I keep seeing articles about bike fitting when buying a bike. When I got mine the Lbs just measured my arm from the seat to the handle bar and put me on the bike to spin it a few times. I am increasing my distance now 97 miles this weekend over two days in prep for sportives next year etc etc. I have a pain in my right knee which feels like its on top the the knee cap on the left hand side of it. One day after the ride the pain goes.
Any suggestions? Would a proper bike fit help?
Thanks,

Andy

Check the height of your saddle. There are lots of online guides. If too low, knee pain is common

If you don't feel confident checking, go back to the shop. Also, what are you using for pedals? If clipless make sure the cleats are correctly aligned, again plenty of guides online, but ask the shop for help if needed

Don't ignore knee pain. If all this doesn't help, then you could try a bike fit but not cheap

Huh?

I found this guide too; narrowed it down on a turbo and eliminated pain.

FWIW the fit I had done just looked at saddle height but some look at the cleat angle.

After reading about bike fitting. I am less and less impressed with the LBS
Go back, explain the problem and ask them to check your position. Many LBS's aren't great when you buy a bike - does depend on the shop and the price point though (some shops offer a full fit with bike purchase). Did they fit the cleats or you? Often you can't tell whether the saddle is right until you do some miles, not a few spins on a turbo trainer
