No, the chain is tougher than any other chain. They're all made from the same carbon steel. The cassette cannot last forever, no matter at what point you change the chain. Eventually it wears out.

What I mean is, normally it's not necessary to change the cassette with every change of chain - I usually change my cassette every other time I need to install a new chain, although I've heard some say that a new cassette is only necessary after the third chain. But with KMC chains being so hard and long-lasting, I'm wondering whether it's necessary to change the cassette every time you change the chain.

Wowee! A whole book about bicycle chains! I bet there's an entire section devoted to the thorny subject of whether or not you should oil a new chain! Complicated subject indeed. But then, the chain is THE most complicated thing on a bike (apart from the person riding it, of course).
