I’d heard that one too, different part of the country which may make it apocryphal..,,
yes - I was also wondering if the name had been misheard.
one wonders if a well meaning adult had ever asked the unfortunate child," oo, that's a nice name, what does it mean/where does it come from"?

Anyone who names a child after any character from the old testament had better do some deep reading research. A fair bit of that book is a horrorfest.

My in-laws named their boy Uriah.

Sure, Uriah was a noble character but still..
Cripes - for most folks will of course think of Dickens - and one of the creepiest figures in literature - have known a small number of Uriahs (dickens) in life - worms.

have come across a few names I fear the parents didn't realise the import of.

Probably because they were trying to seem clever/cultured - but actually displaying their ignorance and awful tendency to use their child as some sort of totem.

Rupert seems to have gone out of fashion. I don't think Kermit would be too popular in the US any more either.
was Rupert EVER a serious name?

(well since Prince Rupert)

I dimly remember someone in the background at university who was a Rupert - it was a university where some who had failed to get into Oxbridge consoled themselves with.

There haven't been many girls called 'Myra' since the 1960s.

I knew a Rupert at primary school - he got teased for being posh.
Mind you, there were 3 Julies in the class plus me - Julia. I got teased for having a posh name too!
