Have to go into hospital next week for keyhole surgery - gonna be out of action for 6-8 weeks and 7 weeks after that i'm doing the Asthma UK Beach to Beach ride, 140 miles over two days

Wish me luck

What is being done?

Having had 2 of these done in 2010, it sounds an ambitious plan to do such a long ride so soon. The first one, I was off work for 3 weeks and not allowed to drive, let alone cycle. Second one, I was on the exercise bike after a few weeks

Good luck

What are you having done? I may need surgery at some point but looking at all other alternatives first.

If it is wash out with no scraping and trimming done, hopefully you'll be good...especially if your quads are tip top  Can you not postpone the op until after the ride, or are you unable to do the ride with the knee as it is with the training?

Hope it all works out for you

private medical with bupa vickster - they want me in and out as soon as possible - Consultant said it should be ok and my quads are pretty big to be honest being an ex footballer and sprinter in my younger days.

I thought the advantage of private HC was being able to choose when and where...how it works for me.

If it needs doing, there's probably never a good time. Is it problematic for you?

My daughter had that done 5 weeks ago and she was given 6 weeks of rest.... no walking and certainly not cycling. It seems that she could walk without pain right from the start but the risk of developing arthritis in a few years time in too big a risk.

Don't want to scare you but read this

Two Arthuroscopy's done on right knee and one on left knee. All to do with tatty cartlidge, swelling and cysts. After the op rest for a few weeks.Follow the exercises and you will be on your bike in no time.I would pass up on the ride though.Do one later on.My knees are fantastic.

Be religious about your rehab exercises afterwards, and you should be OK. I was skiing a month after mine.
