I might be doing the 4 passes too... not sure yet, I'm seriously behind on my miles so far for this year (500 less than this time last year). A friend might be going across there, and if he does, I'll prob go with him. Only thing is, I'm on a double at the front (52/39) and 11/24 at the back. Friend reckons I'll struggle... I've never ridden these roads on a roadie before, have doen Whinlatter on MTB with panniers though.

Your friend may be right, I wouldn't fancy climbing the Honister on a double. Depends on your climbing abilities I suppose.

Looks like a cracking route though.

I am in the same boat, with very little in way of training and virtually no hill training. ( I blame the weather!)

Im on a compact 50/34 and an 11/25 rear so expecting to struggle or walk up the steep bits.

Im over there with Mrs AF for the weekend and theres a good chance that i will over indulge on food and drink, so could end up just doing 2 passes!

Not sure if your planning on staying over, but its Keswick mountain festival weekend and accomodation may be a problem. I am staying in Bassenthwaite.

I went over whinlatter on saturday using a 50/34 12-26 and managed ok(just:whistle:) havent tried newlands or honister yet as im new ish to this cycling lark enjoy:thumbsup:

Milleman

Regular
TBH Whinlater is by far the easiest of the passes, Newlands and Honister both have short sections of 20-25% on them.

Good luck!

Well that was 6 more passes than me, well done.

I was staying a little outside of Keswick and managed to oversleep on the Saturday morning. By the time I got down into town it was after 10.30, so registration had closed. Just didnt fancy plodding round on my own, so ended up doing a solo ride in the area.
Nevermind theres always next year!

Well done. How was the gearing?
Erm... too much, tbh. I think I first said above that my largest rear cog was 28... actually 24, and I had to walk for a bit on both Newlands and Honister. Whinlatter was fine though. Enjoyed the ride tremendously, especially as I have since read the reports on here of last year!!!
