what it sounded like to me was, "the train I was going to catch was this afternoon, but i've got to get back for tea, so I'm just going to catch the first train that I can."
Which I interpreted to mean, you had to get back home before anyone found out you'd gone to york in order to try and nick some of Arch's fame.
