I've had too many bad experiences with Cateye lights to make them a viable choice for me ever again... I use Smart lights as my "commuter" lights: Smart 25 & 35 up front, with two R1's at the back.

No matter how bright/how many lamps you have there is always going to be some arse who does not see you ! I have the Niteriders up front which are as bright as a car headlamps but still i get pull outs !!!!! As i have already said Cateye have done me well, maybe i did not get the "Friday afternoon" ones ^_^

The front light is really bright , not the best quality I bet but iv been running it for a month and for the money it's very good ,they give u a wee led rear light as well , good for a back up/spare set

He, he, we are the ones for a bargain ^_^
I got pound shop bike lights + frog knogs because they are funky and the lbs gave me them free with bike, but for the back I picked semi-decent "smart-eline" lights, about a fiver on Amazon. Plus I carry a dinamo torch just in case they switch off the lights in the park that I use as a shortcut.
It's enough for city centre commuting, I think.

OK, thanks for all the advice. I've ordered a Knog Strobe for the front and a Cateye EL150/LD150R set.
They look like they'll do the job with the minimum impact to the look of the bike. That sort of thing never worried me before but I find that the more I get into this biking malarky, the more of a tart I turn into. Is that just me or is it normal?

Normal ^_^ I get all chuffed when people say "you've got a nice bike" .... never mind I can barely ride it!

Decathlon do some like the Frog knog ones (cant find them on thier website though) they are a tad larger than a 50p piece and weigh 18g that can flash or steady. I use one on top of my helmet. Cost about sick squid each.
I just bought some super duper lights from Torchyboy - (now there's a man who knows about lights) but I dont think he has any tidgy stuff.
