Well after spending many many hours researching the net, asking for some advice on here I finally decided to go over my budget and buy what appears to be a decent bike.

Its a brand new Felt QX65 2011 Hybrid which looks to have pound for pound a resonable spec

Nice piccy below :becool:

I bought the QX85D two weeks ago, very pleased with it so far tho I've found the tyres very 'draggy' on tarmac so I think they'll need changing soon.

I think it will be the reverse with me

The bike will find me a little draggy and need a new rider

Just to add, i deliberated over the frame size of 52 or 55cm

I am just short of 5ft 9 with inside leg of 31 and was recommended by the shop to go 55cm

some websites say for my size I should get the 52cm's, some say 55cms,very confusing (yes I know I should have had a fitting  )

I queried the 55cm frame size the supplier advised me to buy and sent them the chart below which I managed to get off an archived Felt webiste

Based on my inside leg of 31"/height of 5ft 8 1/2" and the standover size on the chart below they have changed it from the 55cm frame to a 52 cm frame

size 52 55

Standover 812
838

had to edit the post

The full chart wont copy/past properly

Bike was delivered today

Looks stunning, well pleased with the bike and the quality :becool:

Spent a couple of hours putting the wheels, pedals, handlebars on and make the neccessary adjustments then having a good read up of the manual making sure I knew the bike.

Good job i changed from 55cm frame to 52cm frame as well or it would have been too big for me.

Then set off on my first bike ride for 32 years

10 minutes later I was back looking rather pale and legs like jelly  (we do live in a hilly area)

I need to build my stamina up over the next few weeks before I venture out proper

;) ;) ;) I know exactly how you felt.At the start of the year I started cycling again after a 30 year break and like you I live in a hilly area (North York Moors). At first I questioned the wisdom of what I was doing but although I am the first to admit I will never regain my former fitness etc I am doing a lot better than I expected. In fact I am hoping to do the C2C next year.
