After years of Rugby and slow plodding (running) my feet have finally given up so I have to stop running. I need to exercise so have plunged into the bike world knowing nothing about it. My plan is to get out at least 5 times a week, if I can. I have gone on eBay and bought this http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Saracen-Morz...EW/$(KGrHqVHJDkFJdrRM0MHBSbnEWOySw~~60_12.JPG this for £117.
Here is the eBay description 'Saracen Morzine road racing bike in good condition. Few minor cosmetic scratches on frame.

Shimano 105 gear set, brakes and wheels.

Aero blade forks.'

It doesn't come with pedals so please would you be kind enough to let me know if this bike looks ok and what pedals and other equipment I need to buy. I have nothing at all thus far in terms of equipment/extras!

Thank you all so much!

When you get your pedals have a think about what you will wear on your feet.

As you are starting out you may wish to get some ordinary flat pedals whilst you get used to riding; what i did was ride in astro boots (maybe you've got some rugby training?) i found these better than normal trainers as they were more rigid in the sole so soaked up less energy and hurt my feet less.

If you want to go brave straight away you can buy clipless pedals, which require shoes with something called a cleat which you clip into the pedal (that is an irony alanis morisette missed out on!) it's apparently like attaching a ski boot to a ski. Benefits are a better power transfer, but you will fall over at least once! These require special cycling shoes.

If the latter visit the stickied thread on clipless pedals.

Enjoy the new bike

Enjoy your cycling. You're going to find it addictive and if you hang around here for long enough you'll find yourself addicted to spending too.

Shimano 105 is avery good set up. I would suggest you buy a set of flat pedals and get used to the bike. Dont over do it at first.

If you are like most of us getting the bike is where the spending starts. Once you have everything that you swear is 100% essential the initial outlay will end up being the cheap bit!

get flat pedals to begin with til you get used to the bike and then go clipless, your local bike shop will advise you on pedals and cleats. (the reason its called clipless is bcoz the straps you used to get on pedals are called clips. No need for clips with a cleat so therefore " clipless" ... Even tho you clip in. Go figure lol)

Get a helmet. I sometimes used to not bother wearing one but fortunately I was when I went over my handlebars at 20mph and landed on my .......... helmet, which was split and only good for the bin. Better that than my skull.
