LOVE their bike rental system, those bike racks are everywhere, you just put in your CC info an take a bike, then return it to any of the bike racks really simple and easy to use.... we should do something similar in London.

HATED the lack of working brakes on all bikes, the renal bikes and the bikes used for the "fat tire bike tours" -- which were great by the way

Why do all their bikes have this brakes that do not seem to stop you... they just seem to slow you down slightly?

The French have traditionally taken longer breaks than us Brits

Their bike BRAKES however, are probably bought/fitted to RENTAL bikes based on cost effectiveness (as cheap and long - lasting as possible) and thus not all that spectacular but still basically effective.
