Getting old but not past it

went for a long ride yesterday ( long for me anyway, 23miles) with a combination of hills so my legs felt a bit tired today. This morning, I decided to go for a short ride, about 6 miles on my slightly heavier Vitesse sprint road bike.
At a certain roudabout, the road goes up ahead on a steep uphill for maybe half a mile or you can turn right and follow the seafront on a flat road.
Just as I was coming to the roundabout, this middle aged man on a road bike was coming on my right and signalling to go up that hill. He was wearing all the gear so must be a regular cyclist.
I played with the idea of following him up the hill, just to test myself against him, as I always ride on my own, but then remembered two things:
1). my legs were still tired from the day before.
2). I was not on my preferred Specialised bike but a slightly heavier one,
so I chickened out and turn right onto the seafront as I didn't want to be left behind, struggling to keep up with him.
Next time maybe, with rested legs and my better bike.:hello:
Have you ever felt like that?

No ive never felt like that - i would be more inclined to change route to compare myself alongside somebody else than turn off to avoid it.
I have no pretensions that i am in any way so good a cyclist that i have any problem about being overtaken. If i changed route everytime i needed to avoid being overtaken i would never get home.
I say fair play to anyone who overtakes me.
