After having posted several questions on the site and having received great responses and advice, I have now made a decision and purchased my first 'proper' bike. (as a beginner!)

This afternoon I purchased a Trek 7.3 - managed to get it for £400 (£425 retail) from LBS - and I can put it through my company so I can claim back the VAT so it will actually cost me less that £350 (my initial budget was £250 - £300). Agonised for ages but figured it was worth paying the extra for a bike that I really, really liked.

Just can't wait until Wednesday when I can pick it up.

Well done Victor.
I got the Trek 7.1fx my 1st bike since being a kid,if I knew how much I would enjoy it would have gone for the 7.3 myself maybe even the 7.5.
Will certainly get an upgrade next year.

Yay - finally collected it.

Rode it back from bike shop (weather held out for me) - 9 miles in half an hour.

Very happy with it - wish I had time to play, but need to get back to work - will hopefully get to ride it tomorrow morning
