Hi all,

firstly, ive been looking through the forums for months wrt getting out and about. Got advice on winter clothin, bike lights and which bike to buy. Thanks to all.

I've been doing the odd couple of miles here and there, but today i did the glasgow to uddingston stretch(return) of the NCN75. Although it P'd for about 40 mins, i have to admit, it was a crackin wee jaunt, and i'm surprised i managed to complete it. Such a good feeling that i did it, i had to tell someone.........why not every one on here. I know it might be nothing to serious cyclists, but was a massive hurdle for me to overcome.

Again, thanks to every one for the advice i "stole" from the forum.

Congratulations on a first big ride in December!

Thanks, but to be honest, I've nothing to compare it against. Got chased by 2 dogs, almost bit by one, hit with fallen tree branch. Was a great day.

Wonder what it's like when the weather is good. More dogs i suppose.

Yep, better weather normally means more dogs and more chavs (or "neds" to you ) if you go through an area populated by such.

Still, congratulations on your first ride out and welcome to the playground.

A whole new worlds going to open up to you when the weather gets better weeled...
The smells, sights, sun, wildlife....god, i cant wait. There's no denying, it can be grim and hard in the winter, but the rest of the year makes up for it.
Well done..and keep it up. Whatever mileage you did today, will seem a drop in the ocean in 6 months. You made a start and enjoyed it, thats the main thing.

the track, or path , is 10miles each way, so by my rusty arithmatic thats a 20 mile round trip.

As it follows the edge of the clyde, there are no major hills involved, just slight undulations. I was hoping for 10 miles or so, but thought, F*&k it, in for a penny in for a pound, so did it start to finish.

Great news. If you can keep riding through the winter, the summer comes-on like a breeze... You'll be riding like Lance by then!

Congrats.

i know, bring on the summer.....canny wait.

Just a wee note, the route 75 cycle path from uddingston/glasgow is a great condition route. The only "bad" bits, and they were not even that bad, are, at uddingston Grammer, the new school has done away with the path, and a shingle temp path is in its place, and at cambuslang, the tree roots have ripped open the path. But all in all, a great path. would thoroughly recommend.

Good man.

Didn't see much of the weather today but it was nasty first thing and not much better early evening. Good for you for not wimping out.

Never tried that stretch-is it suitable for a road bike or is it more of a MTB path?
