Mystery solved. It's Prof Alice Roberts

It would be great for this mystery to continue for another decade or so

and then someone to find an ancient letter from one person to another saying "I have made this weird thing - it is totally useless but I think people will dig it up in the future and I just want to confuse them so I am sending ot to loads of people
please put it somewhere that they might find them and wonder what the hell it is
Thanks - Spicus Milignus""

I used to have a thing for the then merely Doctor Alice but she's one of those that won't stop airing her political opinions at every opportunity.

Just imagine enjoying a post coital Hamlet when she pipes up, "sex was more satisfying under the last Whig government." Can't be doing with that, so she's blown her chances with me.

She's an educated woman; she'd probably like to know how you levitate

The Roman legions spent a *lot* of time gambling. I'm going to go along with the "gaming die" proposals.

We know the Romans had dice, card games, and board games, but most of the details have been lost. Everyone knew the details back then, so there was no reason to waste paper and quills writing about them.

It reminds me slightly of the pellet that was used to assassinate Georgi Markov, although given the original was 1.7mm in diameter, the scale isn't quite right.
