However, I wouldn't rely on one on it's own and go out without a back-up hand pump. The weak point on Co2 inflators is the seal which will eventually harden and fail due to exposure to the freezing gas in the canister. You can delay this by smearing silicone round the lip of the canister, but eventually it will leave you stranded (Ask me how I know ).

i carry a CO2/minipump combo with 3 x 16g threaded CO2 caps. Each will give about 80-90 psi in a 700x25c tyre

CO2pump_zpscf36d0b6.jpg

takes 12g threadless caps - or 16g threaded using just the head
without CO2, i doubt i could pump the tyre above 40-50psi - but it would get me home

Doesn't the pump make the CO2 canister redundant or vice versa? I've also been thinking about CO2 canisters during this past week. Wondering which is better for the quick road side repair, pump vs C02 canisters.

CO2 by a long shot. Half a second to inflate a road tyre.
However, you should also carry a manual pump too.

I have one but only carry it for use when I'm completely knackered add just want to get home. I've never managed to get more than 80-90psi. My Lezyne Road Drive pump will get me to 110psi before my arm gives out.

I have a jetvalve.... Not pretty, not refined, but works!

Does the job .I carry one + a cylinder on the commuter and a mini pump.Saves time pumping the tyre up in the event of a flat and its very rare i would get more than one flat at a time but the mini pump is there as back up.
