Thought throw this one in...

why are most cycle jerseys short sleeved? apart from the Pro's wearing them I cant see much benefit for us normal humans. When out, the majority of others on bikes then tend to have the jersey then a rain jacket on, if not, a soft shell or a long sleeved base layer . The choice for summer/spring long sleeved jerseys is extremely limited in my experience and lets be honest apart from the odd few days in the UK the times to wear short sleeve are limited! Maybe I'm considered strange as prefer long sleeved and a short sleeve base layer? I wait to be shot down now!

Depends on how much you feel the cold no?
I have been wearing short sleeves since March, when ever the temp is above 10degs. So that will take me into the later part of the year. So as far as I am concerned it's not just a few days of the year.

And apart from pro jersey's, there's plenty of long sleeve jersey's available. Inc. Cycle Chat ones.

Jerseys basically let as much air through as possible to improve circulation, wick and dry sweat, etc. So why add extra sleeve material when some kind of soft shell is what you want if it's too cold for short sleeves?

Having said that, I've got two long sleeved, 2-3 short sleeved, and sometimes wear short over long instead of a gilet.

Short sleeve jersey with arm warmers is more flexible than a long sleeve jersey. It may not be hot here in the UK very often, but for anything above ~12 degrees I'd say a sleeveless baselayer, short sleeve jersey and arm warmers is as much as you'd want to wear if you're riding fairly hard. If it rains then add a gilet.

I only own one long sleeved jersey. Short sleeves all year round with a jacket over for when it's cold. The only time I've ever worn a base layer is on Friday Night Rides to the Coast where you get very low temps and lots of hanging around. My commute kit never consists of more than s/s top and jacket.

And no, I don't own any armwarmers. :boxing:

When i rode yesterday it was 11 degrees, i was roasting within 10 minutes, short sleeve top & shorts with a waterproof jacket in the backpack, reckon that's going to be my regular kit, i do have a baselayer and I have worn it once since January, that was for a 6am offroad ride, it was bloody cold that morning, again within an hour i was toasty.

Short sleeves and arm warmers does the trick for me.

Ian's got the same kind of arm warmers as me: http://www.primalwear.com/p-53-primal-tattoo-arm-warmers.aspx

Are we assuming you only have/want one jersey? To state the obvious: dress as the weather demands. At 28 C here today I went out in a sleeveless jersey (sacrilege according to velominazi.)

I wear LS Nike or similar running tops most of the time as my arms get cold!

Trying to find a lightweight LS cycling jersey without fleecy inner is actually quite hard!
