I have type 2 diabetes and carry 6 jelly babies with me on every ride.i have never had to use them yet but they are there just in case. I have bonked twice while out on the bike both times before I was diagnosed, and I didn't know what was happening to me, my body just drained of energy and I had to stop. The second time I was 7 miles from home with a large hill to climb I still don't know how I got home that day. My diabetes nurse told me about the jelly babies and said nothing will act on you quicker, take them as soon as you start feeling tired.

However many can you fit in your mouth before you can't chew. That is the correct amount.
Within reason! The giant African pouched rat can stuff its mouth with food to reckless levels. Here's Wiki...

These cheek pouches allow it to gather up several kilograms of nuts per night for storage underground. It has been known to stuff its pouches so full of date palm nuts so as to be hardly able to squeeze through the entrance of its burrow.

Got to be Bassetts natural fruit variety . They weigh in at about 10 calories each . I keep nibbling away on them but cram in a handful (not all at once :-) )
about 15 minutes before a big climb if I know one is coming.

We have to be careful though. A gob full of rubbery mush and a gob open trying to gulp in air could lead to choking on the stuff!!
