Anyone else see it? What a great programme!

I'll be first in the queue tomorrow for the Airfix Spitfire model kit :becool:
Might even get myself a tank as well

Yes I watched it all the way through with a big grin on my face. Not airfix but there's two balsa models upstairs me and the kids need to finish.

It was brilliant, the expression on his face when he came back after flying the Spitfire was priceless as was his genuine delight at making the full scale model.

I've still got a few unmade aircraft in a box upstairs somewhere including a Lancaster and Spitfire MkXIX. Time to start digging! I enjoyed assembling the models but always had difficulty doing a decent job with the paint.
Somewhere there is also an assembled balsawood frame for a glider which needs covering in paper and dope.

For a minute I thought it was going to collapse as it came out the door.

I only saw a few minutes of it, but it brought back memories...

When I was 7 years old I won a Spitfire kit for being the class male swot - I loved it! I think the class female swot won something 'girly' like a hairbrush - nothing PC about those days! :becool:

Slightly off topic but a couple of months ago BF and me were down in London for the weekend and we went to the RAF museum at Hendon. At the end you "have" to go through the gift shop to get out (something that annoys me) and I heard a father and son talking near the Airfix models in there. The dad was saying "give me the box I just want to check that glue is included" and the son said " I don't want glue I want a screwdriver". As we left the shop the dad was trying to explain to the son just how the models worked... I suspect that the dad would end up doing it himself.

The thing that amazed me was that they made 300 Spitfires a month at the Castle Bromwich Jaguar plant.
Bet they couldn't do that now without half a dozen safety recalls.

What a privilege to have flown one though, lucky man.
