That takes the pi$$.

At least it solves one question I've had for a while - until now, Johnson's 200m WR had a faster average speed than the 100m WR. I'm not the greatest at maths, but I can do S=D/T.

Now there is no question about who the fastest man in the world is. Who knows why the 100m WR holder gets the title of fastest man and not the 200m WR holder?

In the the 200m, you have a higher average speed as there is only one acceleration phase.

In the 100m, half the race is acceleration, so the average speed overall is lower, but the maximum speed reached is higher as it has to be sustained for less far.

there is no national anti doping agency in jamaica
That's not strictly true. I think their Parliament passed a bill to establish Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) some years ago but haven't got round to allocating it a budget, so it doesn't appear to have any employees, equipment or testing program.

The Caribbean countries as a whole, do have a collective drug testing body, but Jamaica refused to join as they were setting up their own!

Only the IAAF are known to do any testing in Jamaica but they admit their 'on island' testing is thought to be compromised by collaboration between he Jamaican authorities and the athletes.

The bad feelings between on one hand, the American sprinters and sprinters from other Caribbean countries (like the Bahamas), and the Jamaican sprinters has been building for years. The danger is that the iconic races of these games could still be tarnished.

GB used to excel at the events we needed to build an empire - shooting, archery, equestrian and sailing whereas other countries concentrated on events useful to them - running.

Which part of the empire did we gain by archery?

Unless you're thinking of Agincourt....
