Check this thread, it has been updated towards the end : Truly all-weather rear light
If you have mudguards the water ingress problem is less. I have a cateye tl ld 1100 and it is very strong, water resistant, reliable and very good in the dark. But there are much brighter lights (which are probably to bright for when it is dark.)

I use the exposure flare, very bright and the battery lasts for ages
Looks good and water resistant. When I was looking at a rear light, I did not like the way it sticks out and expected it to become a problem on a racebike, lots of impact / rattling and the light loosing its position.

The silicone band keeps the light firmly in place, I've never had a rattle or the light loose it's position

Cateye tl ld1100 owner here! And i LOVE it! The range of lighting patterns is immense and some of the lights shine outwards (i.e. to the side): a must in my opinion. I also rock some very cool blue spokelit spoke lights. I can bore you with details of my other lights if you wish ;)

I agree, reliable, strong, versatile, water proof, easy on batteries and you will notice when they need replacing/recharging but it is not the brightest, but certainly more than good enough when it is dark. Probably the best all-rounder.

Also have a look at this thread : Waterproof rear lights

I have exposure flares and although the light itself is impressive, the service from the company should you have any issues is nothing short of appalling from my experience.
