Wow - our's didn't turn up too great - possibly dug them up too early ?

Hmmph - it used to be said "Don't dig your parsnips till they've been good and frosted". Bit tricky now that global warming has made Jack Frost extinct. So I digs mine in Jan and Feb. But even in Feb they begin to grow and thus get woody so I'll start in December next year.

So when did you dig em up fossyant?

I think the wife and kids dug them up late November.....Its the wife and kids veg patch.......the grass and boarders I look after....don't do veggies, although usually end up watering everything on hot days....the wife forgets....

Well I guess late November isn't too silly. I wouldn't recommend digging them all up at one go (they can dry out). Best to dig em up as needed. They keep very well in the ground (as do carotts).

Anyway encourage t'others to keep going - nothing quite like home grown veg

No way. Supermarket veg is grotty compared to any homegrown. Presently I've just munched my way through some homegrown celeriac It couldn't have been fresher. From growing to my tum in under half an hour
