... and you can guarantee that when you've left it until the absolute last milisecond to unclip at the red light ... it'll turn green ...
Never fails absolutely every time.

PP when you least expect it you will be lying on the floor with a bike wondering how you got there. On the plus side its got to be one of the best upgrades you can make and you will not go back to flats.

Which ones did you get or does it not make a difference ?
There is an offer for Shimano's with Shoes for about £45 somewhere online.

Went for the m520's in the end (ebay bargain) - had some Nike Kato shoes anyway, that I had bought a couple of years ago and used on my old flat pedals, but when I changed flats, the soles were really slippery and I ended up sliding off the pedals, so the shoes ended up at the bottom of the wardrobe till now.

Did another 17 miles tonight and absolutely no problem at all. Went with a friend and didn't tell her I had gone clipless to see how long it would take her to notice, and she never did!!!!

I still can't believe how EASY this is!!!!! Didn't feel as if my pedalling was particularly more efficient tho, but then I'm not used to pulling on the upstroke, so it might make more of a difference when I get more used to them....

I didn't think my pedalling was much different after I went clipless. However, when riding on flats recently I found my feet kept sliding of the pedals - turns out I've been pushing down and then pulling backwards through the bottom of the stroke. Whilst this has been fine on clipless, on flat I kept sliding of the back of the pedals.

Plus, every time I hit a slight bump I found I was concentrating on keeping my feet on the pedals and was not able to just keep pedalling. Definitely prefer clipless - been 18 months now and I've not fallen yet...

Kudos PP. You'll really notice the advantage of pulling up if you have to do a sprint, and on the hills, imo. Riding flats (my shop bike has flats still) is very weird after clipless, and can feel downright unsafe in the rain.

I rode a bike with toeclips on the other day after being clipless for about 18 months... boy did that feel weird!!!

Having to look at your feet when starting off to find the toeclip, and still feeling like you're sliding out after every stroke!

No thanks, I'll stay clipless (and still fall-less so far!).

Well done PP.

Cathryn - I'm really surprised  you have not progressed to what I'm going to call "the next stage of cycling" ! I thought you would have had plenty of time going up and down, in and around the roads, lanes and hills of UK/Europe to have got clipless sussed by now.

Go on - you know it makes sense :biggrin:

We'll all encourage you ;)

Nice one punky! After all, the people on this forum what ride clipless are proof positive that anyone can do it! ;)

Come on in Cathryn, the water's lovely!

Good one PP. Just wait till you are at a busy junction to have the first falling off moment - that was where I had mine after months of riding clipless! I didn't notice a difference till I tried flats again and just couldn't ride!

I didn't think it was actually possible to fall off because of clipless pedals. I thought it was just an urban myth.

Well done PP, I think you've just made the best decision you could after actually buying a bike. As others have said you'll notice the difference more when you try riding without them especially when pedalling hard over rough surfaces. I hope the not falling off thing goes on for a while but the bad news is it will happen sooner or later and not only once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
