I never wore lycra until I was well into my 50s so I more or less sidestepped the middle-aged bit and had already slipped into the ''I don't care what you think'' mode. Once you've worn them a few times, you forget you're wearing them - they become like a second skin. And I'm surprised at how rarely people seem to take exception to it - maybe once every couple of years an odd person (invariably overweight) has made a comment.

For what it's worth, I reckon my legs look younger than the rest of me....

I just asked her why she calls it that way, it seems she thinks only people with a small willy (her words) would wear that combination.
Or people staring directly at your cock is a bit wrong . I sometimes have to meet customers or go to the timber yard , toolshop etc . They all look at my cock  Bloody wierdos !
I did start asking why they where looking at my cock but it didnt go down well

Maybe you should put it away before doing those things?

For a slow ride i don't bother with lycra , anything where you may start sweating then just wear it .

I have only been cycling for 4 weeks and being overweight I was very wary about wearing lycra but I took the bull by the horns and thought sod it. If I want to enjoy cycling and make it a fun thing to lose weight as opposed to a chore better get the right gear.

Oh my what a difference they make wore my leggings today and they felt great like someone has already said a second skin.

I don't own a jersey yet as I prefer a loose fitting t shirt and an old waterproof shell jacket which just feels more comfortable to me. Summer and I will go the whole hog and show off my mainly curves to the full.

This summer, I have raided Halfords and Aldi and bought a few midrange Lycra items, first time I have ever worn it. I absolutely love wearing it on the bike. And, weirdly, I think it makes me look slimmer rather than the opposite. I don't mind being seen in it at all. But yes, there is a touch of the Max Wall about the lower half.

What was the name of the english sprinter reknowned for lycra and having a sizeable bannana ?

Anyway, one pair of shorts ?
I just bought a couple more pairs and realized i have 9 pairs of bib shorts !!!, then again mine are worn most days and dissapear in the general wash / dry machine that is a house with kids so might take a few days to make it back clean and dry.

I had second thoughts about lycra even before i saw myself in them... it was the chamois "at upper thigh" position when first pulling the on that got me, that just felt soooo wrong.
