Very sad. The death of a child is a desperate thing. I cannot imagine coming to terms with it.

Whatever you think of politicians..... and I'm the most cynical you could get.... could wish for anything like this...even those of us with kids can barely imagine the personal tragedy involved .xx(

It's a bit more complicated than that...

(I dont think P&L is the appropriate place for this thread btw.)

As it stands, no. It's pure cafe.

But can I just say that I'm not very sad. I'm sympathetic to the guy and can imagine his distress. He must be devastated. But it doesn't sadden me except in the most general "no man is an island" sense. And that's because I have never met any of the Camerons, and have never invested any emotion in any of them before.

It's like Arch posted on the Jade Goody thread - we cannot all have an emotional attachment to every last public figure.

It tends to be a parental thing - if you've got children, then the death of a child has more impact than if you haven't. It certainly hit me.

Quite. And whilst empathy does have an element of the self involved, it is, if nothing else, a reminder of the human condition.

I wonder why Zim posted it here. Perhaps he thought some 'lefties' would laugh or something?

I can't see that anyone would have anything except sympathy for the family. That's it really.

Then again, perhaps we all need reminding of our common humanity and that's reason enough for posting it...

I did take a deep breath and hoped that no one would post anything silly. After a moment's thought, I realised that there is no one here among the regular posters who would do such a thing.
