I'm currently going through the same process for pretty much the same reasons, It's nice to see someone finish giving me the resolve to finish

Well done, great job. It's nice to see someone prepared to spend so much time and effort, (and a bit of cash) to breath new life into an knackered old donkey.

I'm sure it's a better bike now than when someone bought it brand new, it certainly looks a million times better then that horrific pink would have ever done new.

OK It's had a couple of good, fairly rough test rides now.

I'm very impressed with them forks, given what I paid they are real nice.

The last bike with suspension I took over the same route was some ugly BSO thing I chucked together from spares one afternoon, which did go suprisingly well but the forks I found to be very "on/off", either doing nothing or totally bottomed out.

Those XCMv3 thingys seem alot more controlled, riding the terrain alot smoother. Very pleased for the £50 quid I paid, BNIB and Delivered

Brakes need some tweeking, I know they are not big name bad boy things but they are deffinately not as sharp as they should be. They'll stop me, just not in a great hurry, but I'm sure I just need to play with them a bit.

All 27 gears are shifting very nicely, that Deore XT rear mech seems to have been a good buy. The only thing is, and I can't figure it out, is the chain skips. Everything seems to be set right but obviously I'm missing something, when I apply power up a hill the chain seems to be jamming, not so much jumping the sprockets but I have to back-pedal a quater rotation or so to free it up. I also saw it seemed to fold up on itself a couple of times. I don't think the chain is to long, any shorter and I'd not be able to engage big/big cogs (I know I probabley wouldn't be doing this but I should be able to if I want to).

Still, it's riding nicely. i DO want Clipless though my feet came away a few times when tanking down rough hills

Re the chain issue. Check the front cog for burs or bent teath. I have alro had this when the chain gets very muddy.

Angel, it's folding up at the back, still check the chainrings?
It folds in between the sprockets and the jockeywheel, I can't seem to move the j/wheel further away from sprockets. Also the skipping thing "feels" like it's happening at the rear mech

Then same procedure for rear cassette. Look for bent or broken teeth. Also it may be worth checking if there is a stiff link in the chain.

Good call on the stiff link ! shall check it over tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the Cassette is almost new I spent alot of time cleaning the hell out of it and it looked tip-top when I was through with it, but I did end up adjusting chain length twice so could well have tightend a link up to much or something
