Has anyone else noticed the proliferation of italian / oriental fusion restaurants all around the world?

It all sounds fine if you're a bespectacled, gap-toothed chino-italian spod walking along the high street and upon seeing such a restaurant you think in your head in high volume 'OH, HELLO. I'LL GO IN HERE FOR MY TEA'.

But... if you think about it, it makes perfect sense because it's all noodle / pasta based.

There used to be (possibly still is) an Irish-Italian restaurant in Wellington NZ called Flanaghini's

A lot of 'Italian' places in Tokyo have done Japanese variations on classic pasta dishes for a long time - spaghetti with mixed Japanese mushrooms, soy and wasabi did indeed used to be a common lunch choice for me at a little place round the corner from where my wife used to work... but I've never worn chinos and my teeth are fine.:becool:

Chinese restaurants in Italy do the same. Spag bol + ginger = noodles with oriental beef sauce. Risotto + MSG = every other dish on the menu apart from the tiramisu (traditional chocolate and cookie cake).

I have found that in most countries these days there is a generic Italian restaurant which is a good cop out if you're sick to death of the local delicacies/rubbish.

There's a Mexican-Polish restaurant called L'Autre in Londons' Shepherd's Market... a great little place and I do recommend the experience, if not the food, to anyone.
