Isis bottom bracket

Thanks Recordace - and gain for the history of BBs - I don't have that many bikes (honest) but I already have bikes with 4 different bottom bracket types. Tend to think the Ridgeback that got me back into cycling in 97 (and the first bike I rather than my dad bought) is probably best equipped - square taper.

Recently got a Hewitt tourer which has external bearings - half think I may change it to square taper when the drive train gets worn.

You can get ISIS BBs that are specially built to last, like this by a) using needle bearings and b) cutting into the over-sized spindle for the inner ball race (IRB also do this). But the SKF are around £80 a throw, and heavier than old Shimano UN7x hollow spindle square tapers.
