Went out the other night and suffered a couple of punctures. No biggie but noticed on inflation that the sidewall of the tyre looks to be delaminating.

Ia it safe or is it destined for the bin?

DCLane

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
@Jody Looks to be splitting with a weakened sidewall. That carries the risk of a blow-out.

Personally I'd not ride it. And I'll ride pretty much anything.

have you checked that the brake shoe is aligned with the rim and not catching the tyre when applied but I would retire the tyre mate

Checked that. No rubbing on the tyre. It has been in the conservatory for the last couple of weeks on the rollers so wonder if the heat made the glue go funny?

Is it like a thread pulling out of a garment? This is quite common with Conti's, it's completely harmless.

Or is it like a split that is widening?

Looks completely like a split to me, no just sheding threads. No way would I ride that on the street.

It isn't a split in the tyre. Its like the material that goes around the bead and then glues onto the main carcass body has started to come away. Let me see if I can get a better picture

First picture is of the front tyre. You can see where both materials meet. The second is a better shot of the rear. On closer inspection it seems the glue is brittle and I reckon sidewall flex when the tyre was deflating has caused it to pull away.

Its holding 100psi currently but going to play it safe and go out on the MTB tonight.

@mathurins I got to 120psi but had to put the wheel behind me when pumping. Had visions of it going bang.

@Yellow Saddle that was my initial thought and that it wasn't structural. You never know though.
