Tyres have done about 200 miles. Were on bike when I got it.

Not necessarily - depends how deep the cut is and whether the casing is still intact.

If the cut runs right the way through to the inside then I'd likely bin it. Had the same on a GP4000 after similar miles and decided for a few quid I'd buy a new one, after all they are your only contact with the ground..

One consideration is how far away from home you ride if you do decide to repair it.
I've successfully ridden a gator with a similar gash, similar as yours when it was quite new. Get (if you can) a strip of emery tape and insert it, abrasive side to the tyre, between the tube and tyre. I rode mine for a whole year like that, although you do have to replace the emery tape now and then.

Proper strips are available I'm sure...but it did used to occur to me, I do think want a permanent failure 30 miles from home...although it never did.

I don't think Grandsports have puncture protection built in so I would say it is knackered.

If it's used for leisurely commutes or short rides, a bodge between tyre and tube could keep you rolling for many a mile.
If it's used for much harder riding, I would ask myself how confident I would feel bombing down a long 20% descent? Personally, it would worry me.

I might give these a try then , was always put off by the lack of protection before .
If the cut is not through the puncture belt then I would keep using it , I would stick it on the back wheel if its on the front now.

As an example, my gator was cut right through, if I inflated the tube well, it would soon come through and of course puncture again. Emery tape for instance is cloth based, very strong and resists that tube working through...for a reasonable while anyway.

I would apply a small amount of Stormsure (glue used by divers on their wetsuits) and maybe something on the inside of the casing if the hole goes all the way through, then I would keep riding it. (Except I wouldn't be using it in the first place because I always use Schwalbe Marathons!)

If you ask for advice on a cycling forum you will get lots of contradictory advice.
Some swear by Continental tyres such as their 4 seasons. I am not a speed merchant and am happy with the Marathons - but some people hate them and claim they have lots of rolling resistance. I have not used the Schwalbe One tyres - but all the reviews rate them very highly.

I had Marathon Pluses and they were heavy. Continental GP or whatever they're called look good, as do Schwalbe Ones.
