It's designed for Teddy Boys so they don't mess their hair up.
Better than with previous designs, according to the article.
It's basically a fairing, isn't it? Could they somehow extend it to cover the entire cross section of the bike and rider?

Oh I love Starballs. It's one of my favourite Richard Moranis films, along with Ghostchasers and Corner Shop of Horror.
I didn't know you two were on such terms.Darling, The Kids Have Grown is fun too.
Spaceballs! It's ridiculous side on and front on it's almost as wide as him.
I think we need some ruling.
TT helmets have long been about aerodynamics more than safety. Before compulsory helmets, some riders were wearing farings that offered no protection. Since compulsion for high-level racing, tales abound of TTers doing Really Dumb Things like buying too small and then scraping most of the polystyrene out of the inside until it fits. As it's not as obvious as sock length, the commissaires and controllers rarely check closely enough to notice.Instant thought, how safe is that? Could do some serious injuries in a bad crash, thinking broken/snapped necks!
I agree @Flick of the Elbow . They should all be on Raleigh Superbs with a saddlebag.
UCI have banned this style effective 2 april.
"The constant quest for improved performance and ever-increasing attention given to detail is leading professional teams and equipment manufacturers to develop their equipment more often and with ever more radical designs.
...the UCI ... prohibits the use of “non-essential” components that are not exclusively for clothing or safety purposes....After conducting a thorough process,... will no longer be permitted for use at events on the UCI International Calendar, effective from 2 April, 2024."
