My chain is slipping in the middle range, fine in low and high

the middle cogs look like something is missing, but I might be wrong as I dont have a clue

is the slippage caused by a broken cassette ?

Thanks

Looks like there is a tooth missing on 5th gear

Have you got the adjusters yet ? SRAM cassettes are funny anyway and do have the odd missing tooth - you'll have to take a close look and see if any have sheared off.

Take the cassette off and strip it.

You will need a very tiny allen key for this(cant rember if it was 1.5 or 2mm right now), it should fit the pins at the rear of the cassette.

Hard to tell, it's too dirty!!

How many miles have you done on it & how many miles on the chain?

Probably worth replacing the cassette & chain if the cost isn't too high.

Chain is new - I fitted it. Cassette - looked clean at weekend (already on wheels), but may not be new - dunno. If not new this would explain the slipping as the middle gears (14T-19T) tend to be used most, and are first to show the 'slipping' when a new chain is fitted.

I think its goosed, I swapped it for my new 10spd 105 cassette yesterday and that (once adjusted) never slipped once.

If it worked OK on the old chain and skips on a new one it is worn out. Next time swap the chain earlier and you should get several chains to one cassette.

Its a second hand groupo

The issue isnt he chain

as I said, I swapped cassettes to a new one and its fine, so the issue is the cassette

So like I said. If it was OK on the old chain and not with a new one the cassette is worn out. QED
