It says you are now invited to apply for the brooch/badge below. Does that mean you might not get one, even though you have to pay £1.99 postage. 🤔

Basically it's bait to catch a fish and your the fish. Once you've hooked you and got the first one they send others on approval. You can send them back normally, however there already got your bank details and a lot of people keep getting them as they think there worth something. It's above board but a ploy to get you to buy something you probably don't want or need.

Yes,it does seem to lead you to coins you might be interested in. Having said that isn't that how most sellers of most goods act. It's all about selling you one thing then attracting you to something else you might want or like. When you say they send things on approval, does that mean you either have to return it or they'll take the price of the item out of your bank account without your consent? 🤔

No, but the consent will probably be hidden somewhere in the small print when you tick the box to agree to their terms and conditions.
If you are interested in this tat, then YOU are going to have to read the small print to find out. Or do the sensible thing and pass it by.

Basically that's it in a nutshell, it's up to you to cancel etc and if you don't your committed on some of these sales scams. I spent 6 months chasing one that sent cheap gold rings out to my gran and took her money when she agreed to it just before being diagnosed with dementia. Took me to get power of attorney and the court involved. They tend to target the more vulnerable over 60s population.

Had a similar thing with my FIL and a magazine selling tat generally to older people. Against our advice he phoned up and bought some stuff so had all his card details....they then enrolled him in gardening clubs, book clubs, priority delivery club etc supposedly with his agreement but it was verbal trickery that he didn't see through. Scum and vermin.

These scams have been going on since the early 80's, long before I was "vulnerable over 60's population" @oxoman .

Anyone remember the Britannia Record Club? Buy a few vinyl LP's for next to nothing, but then get sent their "record of the month" (by some long forgotten band usually) at full price, plus postage and packing, for ever more! Of course you could cancel at any time, but back then cancellation took several months to process, and it wasn't unusual for your letter of cancellation to get lost in the post. I was one of the vulnerable 20 year old mugs who fell for it.

I used to get them on 7 day approval, copy them to cassette, and send them back!

Not quite a scam but close. The website is designed to trick you into ordering the pin and a coin, ordering the coin starts an indefinate subscription of £24.99 + £3.99 postage. You can order the pin on its own for £1.99 postage but expect to get a load of junk mail forever after they get your address.

Over the years I have had a couple of those "send of approval" things

one was boom or LPs or something and took a very irate phone call to them - once I found their phone number - to get it cancelled

The other was cases of wine - but that was a proper company that cancelled the "subscription" as soon as I asked and arranged for the case of wine to be picked up
which was a disappointment - I was kinda hoping they wouldn;t bother!

anyway - it is very easy to end up with them accidentally

I am Shocked

shocked I tell you!!!

I have never done anything like that
and certainly not onto CDs

nor computer games in the early days - although if you are going to sell a computer games to someone with a job title of Computer Programmer then what do you expect???

anyway - cassettes wear out - especially the C120 ones

As a teenager I had one of those "subscription" computer games clubs, for ZX Spectrum cassettes. And I think I had one or two book club type things at times. I would never have done anything like that either @ebikeerwidnes. But yes, cassettes were quite delicate things, and a "fair use" of copyright is a personal backup after all.

In the old days some of us had a "safe storage " agreement between us whereby some of us kept recordings from someone else's LPs on cassettes in their house just in case the owner's house burnt down or something
We were just being aware of risks and helping each other out!
