Not a half bad ride. Question is: did you enjoy it? Everything else is just numbers.

The view from Barr Beacon is the same as usual. The drivers 'down the Pleck' are still nutters, the coffee is good but IKEA is full of Yam-yams and ( especially yesterday ), morons in Villa jerseys.

I'll hand over to the OP now.....

I did 73k on the roads this morning, which according to my Garmin included 757m elevation gain, which I assume means I climbed 757 metres of hills. Is that a lot? It certainly felt like it as I only averaged on 22kph. The strong wind didn't help either.

If you came back shattered, unable to climb a couple of steps and feeling distinctly queasy then yes it was a hard ride....

What makes a hard ride? The effort you put in relative to your maximum sustainable power output really. Oddly enough though I tend to do far less climbing per mile travelled on my commutes that on group rides I have harder rides on my commutes. So yes the fact you were tired & felt like you'd been working really hard tells me that you've had a hard ride, beyond that he numbers you have for average speed etc can only be translated into absolute effort values (ie power produced) not the % of your maximum output.
