Certainly could be but I'd want some positive proof it was a Gillott especially for that money, like a frame number or some provenance. You notice the seller is careful to describe it as "Gillott badged".

Yup, portacatena dropouts started 1978 which is maybe a bit late for a Gillott. Top tube cable guides start to get it into the 80's

Might not be a Gillott, but that’s definitely a very nice MGA in the background

Looks quite Holdsworth-ish to me. Reading classic lightweights suggests that the Gillott name was owned by Edwardes by this point who brought in and badged up frames from other sources.

Good call. The lugs are identical to my 1983 Holdsworthy era Claud.
