It started about week and an half ago when it was raining and went for my daily ride of 18.5 miles when i found it was really hard going, like there was something slowing me down, bit like riding with the brakes on, then have a normal day next day until this sunday when it started happening again with the brakes on feeling, on monday i just felt like i couldn't push so i just turned it into a sort of leisurely ride instead, same tuesday and today, even though im riding against the wind i can or was ride at about 17-18mph, now its down to 13-16 mph, and in a lower gear than normal to try and spin it more but found that i was working as hard as i was in the next gear down (my normal 22nd gear), plus my right knee at the front has started to pain a bit, is there a point where your body hits a wall and says you need to have a prolonged rest to recuperate and re-energise and repair, also am i doing too much for my age, 49 in a few weeks or is that just in the head thing, i was only having every other sunday rest as well, since having the T3 i was doing the miles in about 58 mins to 1hr now its down to 1hr 3-4mins, im not trying to beat any records or anything i thought i was doing a comfy albeit working pace now it feels like im struggling.

I do know what you mean, I had a week like that last week so this week I'm not cycling to work. I'm going to have a few days out of the saddle for the first time since about April. Hopefully I'll be filled with enthusiasm come the start of next week. I hope so because I swear I've gotten tubby this week!

Yes, When I ran, I had days where even easy runs were mindblowingly tough, we call days like that "character runs" Cycling is the same, they come in waves a day here or a day there and sometimes even weeks on end. Just keep on keeping on, and show your character to the world

Hmm, I'm not seeing it. Have you run a SuperAntiSpyware or anything similar recently?

Funny enough i run antimalwarebytes before, ill run spybot in a min and do a bit more checking.

personally I always find I am slower in the winter/cold and often if I am exhausted for no apparent reason when cycling, I find that I am usually coming down with something, so easy back a touch is no bad thing. I'm also much slower by the end of the week than at the start (or on Thursdays after a 2.5hr Spanish lesson that spans my lunchtime - home from Winsford always takes longer then).
OK - I have come to the conclusion I'm just much slower!

I find if I hit that 'wall', a week off the bike seems to work wonders. Next time out it seems to ride itself! Something to do with giving the muscles time to repair and grow, apparently?

It will mostly be the weather, there are a combination of reasons why things are harder and slower in the winter compared to summer

You may also have a cold or something coming on, performance often drops a bit before you really notice the sympton. Have a couple of days off. Also If you are doing the same 18.5 mile route every day you may also be getting a bit bored, change it up a bit if you can.
