I've always had chain tugs on my Bowery. I've just upgraded to a Pearson Now You See Me which doesn't have them. I've just revamped the Bowery for my son to take to Uni, is there any problem with taking the chain tugs off?
Simple test is to try and climb a steep hill. If the wheel moves in the dropouts when you pull hard on it then it will need a chain tug. If not then you may be ok without them
Had cheap ones fitted as standard on my Viking but removed them when they became bent out of shape and a wheel removal was a bit awkward. Since they've been removed (circa 2000miles ago) I've had no problem.
