First up- good on you! I'm sure you'll find cycling a great way to shed the pounds. My tip would be just stick at it. One day you'll get a breakthrough and just find you can ride and ride and ride.

Speed, figures, stats, all of that stuff doesn't matter, at least it does, but only your own. Just keep improving, where you start doesn't matter.

Make the bike a massive priority, get it as soon as you possibly can, make sacrifices for it, and get going now whilst the weather is good. Don't want to wait till September then stop in Autumn. Make sure by Autumn you're a committed rider, who won't stop for bad weather.

Most of all, enjoy the ride and take pride. I was only 16 stone, now vary from 12.5 to 13, I'm 6 foot too. Losing the weight will make an incredible difference in your life, make it your number one priority, make it a must.

Oh, and get a bike you really like, which will inspire you to want to ride it. You'll find they are much more robust than you may think, and there can be a lot of satisfaction to be had one a road bike, where speeds and distances can be higher.

Good luck to you. Keep us posted!

Most important factor for wheel strength is number of spokes. Those look like 32 spokes, so they will be plenty strong. Not as good as hand built, but strong.

And if they aren't, they don't fail catastrophically. Individual spokes break, and you can replace them. If it happens a lot, then you can get hand built wheels to replace them. But it probably won't be necessary.

36 spokes might be a better choice for wheels. Basically, more spokes = stronger wheels.

Also check on the availability of replacement tyres for the Subway. Ask at halfords if they have any 27.5" tyres for mixed road/trail use.

I read through his blog but as i said massive chunks that i have to take in etc really confuses me.

I'm going to aim for thr carrera then. Got mot weds thats gna cost me a few hundred the bike is my next goal!

Jus scared ill sit on it and the wheels will go flat.

Also, any others? just so i can have abit of variety. Really appreciate the help.

Congratulations on your decision to use cycling to get into shape.

The Subway bike will be fine, the wheels will last a while but you will need to look after the hubs, they use loose ball bearings and need some attention at least once a year. The spokes are poor quality and they rust, at least that has been the case in the few subway's wheels I've seen.

Good luck

Go and have a look at it in halfords. Do you need the suspension?

You should be able to find some reviews via Google too as well as on the halfords site

Looks good though :okay:
