I like Trek, I've got the 1.7.

WSD is the ladies bike.

That is the next question

Triple, and immediately slap a 53 ring on it.

compact, especially now we have established you don't want the ladies bike

I'll revert to my original comment.

Get the triple. Put a 53 ring on it and junk the 30 ring - IF you are a man

Get the triple. Then spend your weekends happily twiddling up hills past people who didn't heed the advice "Get the triple" and are weaving across the road trying to turn their 42-tooth chainring. You may also wish to give them a cheery greeting such as "Wotcha!". Don't be surprised if no greeting is returned from the beetroot-faced, breathless, sweating mass you are passing.

I got the double 2 weeks ago cos i rarely come across any big hills.

Problem is the front shifter is a triple. which is annoying cos you'd have to use gears 3 and 1. so double shift each time.
Not a huge problem, but annoying enough that i regret not getting the triple.

apart from that, its a great bike. my first road bike since i was 11 and instantly got comfortable with it (well not the seat)

The bike is 20.5 lb ( or 21.5 lb with a pint of water in a bottle ).

The triple ( 30 tooth ring ) to the 26 sprocket 'should' get it up a 25% grade.

This was the ( and probably still are ) gear set on rental bikes in San Francisco.

There are plenty of 25% grades and I got up one on a hire bike.

You can't go wrong.
