Is my bike too big for me?

Wohoo!! My first couple of rides were slower than average and I couldn't get out of zone 3 for some strange reason. I was like hmm must be me adjusting to the new setup. Even fell over once (unclipped right foot, foot slipped, bike leaned left and down I went!) and got that out of the way. Not a scratch on me since I was fully stopped and I don't believe anyone saw haha. Anyway, took me a couple of days to realize my tire wasn't holding air like it is supposed to due to an unsealed puncture. Leaving the tire puncture side down while on the rack in my garage and then spinning it around a few times sorted that out and mystery solved. I was literally dragging around a flat (semi flat) tire lol. D'oh! First puncture that I know about so was very slow to realize what was happening.

Anyway, the next two rides were PR's galore! Even got 2nd in a small segment. Likely most were not going all out in that small section, but I'll take what I can get! To be fair, I was in the saddle the whole time as I'm not very proficient out of the saddle yet. I mostly ride in the neighborhood for convenience as I have mentioned before. Makes tracking progress pretty easy too lol. Probably still "noob gains" coming in, since I've only been cycling since March, but again, I'll take what I can get!

Hah! We've all had a clipless moment. Welcome to the club!

At least you didn't do it with a backpack full of tomatoes...

I once had a Sara Lee chocolate gateau fall out of a plastic bag that was hanging from the handlebars - landed underneath the bike and ran over it with the rear wheel, left an almost perfectly symmetrical concave gorge right through the middle.

The box was still sealed though so I ate it.

Well, it's a better outcome than dribbling a trail of tomato juice the three remaining miles home...

And I had an audience.

Talk about doing it in style

Great !!
I wish my segments were "easier " to get , so many fast boys around here including an ex pro cyclist so a plodder like me might crack top 50 , out of about 7000 !!
Is it possible to create personal segments that nobody else can view?

At my age and with my health history I have no chance of competing with anybody of even modest cycling fitness and ability, but I would be interested in competing against my own times while not seeing other people's.

You can make them private afaik (you may need premium though)

you can obviously compete against your own PBs as well as filtering by age assuming as @vickster said you have premium

I would have eaten the cake first, then tried the box.

The only person I compete with is myself. I couldn't care less what times, speeds, distances, etc., that anyone else does.

Wohoo the miles keep rolling in!
Not sure which one is more accurate, Strava or my watch app, but meh either way. Longest ride yet. 33 miles, or a 3rd of a century. Ventured outside of my neighborhood and rode to the neighboring towns from my house. Got into my neighborhood right at 30 miles. The last 3 were the hardest lol.

Another great week of cycling in the books. Continuing to post here as I feel this is somewhat fit related and too lazy to make another post and not creative enough to figure out what I would call it lol.

Met up with a cyclist from my neighborhood for my ride this morning. He's basically the 2nd fastest in the neighborhood on a lot of the segment leaderboards. This is only his 2nd ride this year as he has let himself go a bit without riding. He's a bigger guy (like myself), but he is still plenty fast. He left me in the dust on a couple straight aways, but all in good fun. He mentioned that I was spinning too fast and was just going to tire myself out. He told me to switch to my big gear in the front (with the obligatory statement of do what you like). I definitely was a bit faster and I don't think much of it was drafting as most of the time he was a good ways ahead of me. My legs do hurt more, that's for sure! We also tackled the biggest hill I have done so far! Stoked that we did it. My last couple of rides have been mostly in Zone 3. I feel kind of like I'm cheating on my Zone 2 training a bit, but at the end of the day I am out riding and having fun 😁.

I've also been skipping days in between rides this week and it feels like my legs are much fresher on each ride vs not skipping. I think at a high level I will just continue riding when I feel like it. I'll likely try to strong some days together if I can next week. One thing I am thinking is if I need to plan out a rest week eventually, but I don't think I'm "there" yet, and have fear I will regress or fall off my training if I don't keep it going.

One small "fit" related issue I am still facing is foot (mostly toe) pain. Mostly in the middle toes of my dominant foot. Definitely get some swelling of the feet and losen up the shoes on my longer rides, but the toe pain persists. My bike fitter believes it may be a fit issue with the shoe. We plan to go to the LBS and he's going to help guide me on a pair of shoes that best fit my feet. He told me not to move the cleats back. That it could either be me pedaling too heel up or toe pointing, or a sizing issue. This toe pain started when I went clipless so hopefully it's something as simple as a sizing problem. Guess we shall see! 🤞
