I use mine religiously and find it very useful for seeing what my average heart rate is and mapping my progress, i.e. average and maximum HR have both come down as I've got fitter.
This isn't down to me training at lower intensities as my average speed has gone up, as has my mileage. I now use it simply as ameasure of my fitness.
I like numbers, so find it interesting. Having said that, I don't look at it at all during a ride, I just ride how I feel.
