I'm thinking of buying some for cleaning the frame and drivetrain. Is it any good, or am I better off with soap/water and paraffin, respectively? NB I'm not planning to use it as a lube

I use it to displace water from the chain and all that before lubing it at this time of year because it takes so long for it all to dry out naturally.

I think this is acceptable but wait to be proved wrong .

I don't use it on the frame though, got some car shampoo for that.

It s just another form of wd40 i think,i use this to spray on the chain and any moving parts to keep rust away, its worked for me all the time iv had a bike.

I used to use it to clean my chain, in the bad old days, before I discovered...

OK for cables, the teflon stuff's better.

To clean a bike you need a hosepipe brushes, sponges and a big bucket of warm soapy water.

I do the chains with a park chain cleaner and citrus degreaser or muc-off.

Soap and water is best for a good clean of the frame and wheels. Oil, such as 3 in 1 or a cheaper equivalent is best for cables and chains and paraffin is as good as anything for spraying the bike every few days in winter if you need to keep the salt rust at bay between proper cleans.

Don't waste your money on GT85 or WD40. A cheap spray plastic spray bottle from the garden centre filled with paraffin is what I use for those times when a quick, lazy, midweek lube is required.

Paraffin is what I use in my chain cleaning gadget. Works a treat. Then put the cheap bike oil on the chain.

Don't ever buy expensive stuff like Muc-Off. What's the point?

It's not just another form of WD40! WD40 is water based whereas GT85 is not.

Muc-off removed my paint even though the label said is was safe to use on all painted surfaces! Use it with caution - better still, don't waste your money!

3 in 1 is a vegetable oil and will turn turn into big thick glup on the chain. It is best avoided even if it is cheap...

Never had this problem,a drop on and wipe off seems to do it.

3 in 1 will turn to gunge in time. I know because my uncle repairs clocks and he says using 3 in 1 to oil a clock is a common mistake people make. It will work at the time, but within a year, it will turn to a sticky gunge and stop the clock from working.

That would apply for clocks, you need a very thin oil for them, even sewing machines need a thin oil specific for the job,but 3 in 1 is fine for bikes in my experience.
