The route is 51 miles ... I think it may be beyond me at the moment, but am not sure whether to give it a go or not.

You'll see from my signature the distance I have done, is a full day event a possibility in just three weeks?

Has anyone done it, is it an easy route, not too hilly?

I won't be doing it this year, I find there's just too many people. Its not a hard route a 5year old can do it ;)

There's plenty of food stops which make it very easy its perfectly doable for someone who has already done 25miles many of the people doing it will only ever cycle on that day !

51 miles and you've three weeks to get ready for it Mitchy? ... you'll cover that distance easy ... steady pace / lots of fluids / food / rest stops, some company along side you and before you know it, you'll be at the end of the 51 miles

We've the GNBR this weekend at 60 miles, but I've to add eight miles of cycling to the pick up point and then the same distance back after the event, am I looking forwards to it? ... you bet I am  the distance is no object if you set the correct steady pace.

Thanks guys - Miss Mitchy and I will go out for a cycle together at the weekend - our goal being Corrieri's at Stirling. We have decided if we both can do that (23 miles I think from our house) then we will both sign up for PfS.

If you time your Corrieri's visit right (or wrong, depending on your point of view  ), you may get to see a lot of fellow CC Ecossers - see the CC Ecosse August ride thread, if you haven't discovered it yet. You can choose to introduce yourself :hello: or remain incognito .

P.S. Sorry, forgot to say - you'll be fine if you decide to the the PfS! Just take it easy and eat lots of cake at the stops, if in any doubt

Hey there

Go for it mate, 51 miles sounds like a big deal but as everyone says, plenty of fluid/food/stops it'll fly in. I did my first 50 miles the other day and covered it in 3 hrs (not including 1/2 hr stop in between) and found it easier than I thought. Legs were sore for a couple of days mind you!

I can't emphasize enough that you'll need plenty to drink and EAT, as I didn't and by the time I got to around 40 miles I was starving. Is it any wonder when I calculated the calories burned - 2000 odd.

There seems to be a few of us on here doing it - I wish I'd got a Cycle Chat top now. Wonder if its now too late??

Oh and don't worry, if there are loads of people doing it, you wont be able to go too fast anyway (If it's anything like the skyride), so you wont get too tired out as you amble along behind a kid wobbling about all over the place.

Not this year. I will be taking part in the Pedal For Cake Ride on the 11th instead. A much better class of cyclist and cake!

I will be there and it will be my first big ride to date (only had my bike for a week). I am running a half marathon the week before but hopefully my legs will have recovered in time.

Well i`m going to my first Family do with my girlfriend the night before, we are travelling up to scotland and im wondering if it would be socially unacceptable to take my bike and sneak off the morning after and do the ride. if i set off at 8am i could be back in the hotel easily for 12.30pm and noone would know any different !!

I am signed up for this.

Did it last year for the first time. Enjoyed the experience, except the poor organisation of the transport from Edinburgh to Glasgow.

I hope they get this sorted this year.

Um, I am not so sure that I want to approach every cyclist I see in dayglo and lycra on the off chance that it is you, there are increasing numbers on the roads these days...

However, you will know it is a CC ride as there will be at least one or more rides in CC Kit, come to think of it that is also becoming more common on the roads these days ;)

I'm doing it again just the 51 mile route . Was hoping to do the 100 mile route they have this year but various reasons I'm sticking to the 51 .
I've always used the transport but this year I'm taking the car to Glasgow doing the cycle and will try and get a lift back to collect the car later . ( don't want to put my bike on the lorry as it got slightly damaged last year)
