Is a top end bike worth it?

Agreed. To me you can't beat straight chain and seat stays on a steel or Ti bike. My Ti unfortunately has slightly wishboned stays, still good to look at though

A way to ruin a Ti bike

Carbon doesnt always mean deep vickster.......you can get shallow carbon rims that look good to even your eye and have the advantage of low weight too

Low weight doesn't really mean much when you are as heavy as me, other than making the bike lighter to carry up stairs at stations

Plus if I put Red on it, you've got to factor in the bike shop cost of having it taken off and put on again properly

I do. But I only want a Condor Gran Fondo, no longer made, rarer than hen's teeth, so I don't think I'll ever get one. Don't need any more bikes right now either...unless the GF pops up on fleabay in a 55cm!

Bargain Ti...where do I get one new?

Have you thought about Enigma Ti bikes if you can't get a Condor, or even the Spin Spitfire ? If I was in the market for a new road bike, it would be a Rourke 953.

I'm going for a plastic ugly MTB next time though. MTB's don't have to be pretty.

Get on the Enigma mailing list and be prepared to be very quick off the mark when they are doing a showroom/demo clearance. last year we got a £2.8k bike for £2.1k - still not cheap, but a bargain!

There were similar offers this year but not in my size.
