Is 219 bpm max too high for a 55yo MAMIL?

Over the last couple of days I've had some fun racing a few cars on my runs out (speeds in the late thirties for short spells) and, apart from feeling a bit breathless immediately afterwards, haven't felt any the worse for the experience. But on both occasions, when I went to transfer my stats from my on-board computer to my PC, I've found my max heart rate to be 215, and 219 respectively. I'm reasonably confident the bike computer is functioning okay (my previous recent maxes have consistently been in the late 180's during the last year) and I'm also confident my body will tell me if I'm doing myself serious harm, but should I put these figures down to probable computer error, or have I inadvertently wandered into the realms of surprisingly fit?

HR spike owing to sensor error...I'd bet my house on it.

Thanks people - I usually ignore unbelievable stats, but two in a row seemed unusual. I remember reading a maths book all about co-incidence some years ago and should have taken that into account - perhaps it was because I so enjoyed one driver's surprised expression as I overtook him that I allowed myself a little bit a gullibility. ^_^

Mine spikes sometimes very rarely - but you should be able to to tell if its a false reading by the way your heart rate is for time around the max if you know what I mean - a spike normally only happens for a second or 2.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Yes. Look at the actual reported rates on a graph and zoom into the relevant area. If it's anything more than a spike go and consult a doctor.

I bet there was an electric pylon or high voltage supply wire supply wire somewhere near, happens a lot around here.
