Sounds steep to me Gaz, I've never paid to have a bike built, but assuming you've provided everything then it's really not a long or difficult job.

Even if they supply all the cables and outers it still seem pricey, but as far as such things go I am a tightwad

Seem expensive to me for building up a bike from new parts. It's at most only half a day's work.

Unless they're building the wheels for you, ordering all the parts, suppling a fitting service and a couple of free maintenance visits then 160 isn't too bad.

What's included in your bike build?

Definitely pricey, but I gather you are not getting any of the parts from them but supplying them yourself?

Cables, taping bars, headset, facing the frame\bb etc. can all take time and tools.
If they do it carefully and with pride then I think they can string it out to a full days work.

But I'd expect a first service thrown in for that dosh too.

I wonder if many aren't looking at this from the wrong side. Gaz asked about charging, not paying.

Here for rides.
for a mate, straight bars and ready made wheels, a ton is enough.

drops and wheelnurdling bump the price up.

drops and a quill stem. Step away from the money now!

Depends how long it took them. Workshop hour rates are probably a bit more when you supply everything as the shop makes no margin on parts.
