Had exactly this recently and I know it can be a thousand things but Bottom Bracket for me.
Get off the bike, hold the bike with the brakes on and apply pressure to each pedal/crank arm, real pressure. If you hear the click from both sides, it is likely to be the BB.
Also, make sure your pedals are tightened correctly.
BB is fine, it's the pedals.

I took them off, went to spin them while holding the threads, and they were very reluctant to move. So, I took the caps off the bolt ends, sprayed in GT85, and freed them up (the left one more than the right one, actually, that one feels a bit 'grindy' and is on its way out, but it'll do for now).
GT85 is OK for testing but it will wear off quickly. Disassemble and clean or replace the bearings then reassemble and you will probably get another year from them before repeating unless the cups are seriously pitted.

Nah, bugger that. The GT85 was just to clean the crud out. Then I oiled them. They're end of life anyway and I'll probably put some SPD's on. I'm just glad it wasn't the BB ^_^

If it is a square taper then it could be crack arms coming loose. How old is the bicycle ?
Look, he's fixed it.
Ok, fettling done... It's the pedals.

A spot of 3 in 1 to finish the job, caps back on, pedals back on... Bye bye clicking.

Thanks all!

I had this symptom a month or so on my year old Liv. I could have sworn it came from my crank however my John didn't have the tool at the time (now he does) so he did the following.
  • Greased pedal threads
  • Lubricated all spoke nipples
  • Greased seat post
  • Lubricated between stem and handle bar
Click gone. Just annoying though couldn't pinpoint it

Should have just did one check at a time then ride. Simple case of elimination.

Got the same problem. Have taken the crank off, and regreased it all up. Bottom bracket seems to be fine (shimano pressfit), so my next job is to dismantle the pedals and grease them up - There's a little bit of play in the right pedal axle which im hoping a bit of a service will sort out (and im hoping that is the source of my annoying click)
