There are certain brands I wouldn't be seen dead on. This is not to say that there is anything remotely wrong with them but, like Nike, Matalan and Vauxhall, however good an individual product they're just not for me.

In no particular order (and excluding the obvious like Emmelle and Universal);

Dawes
Raleigh (except the 1979 Raleigh Transit. In metalic brown)
Any Claude Butler built after the death of Claude Butler
Cannondale
GT
Marin
Specialized
Saracen
Thorn
Dahon
Merida
Giant
Trek
ICE

What would you not be seen dead on?

Too long a list there mickle, we will allow you two or three brands but twelve, plus two with conditions, it's just too much.:sad:

Dawes - now producing decently equipped bikes that are half-decent to look at for sensible prices
Raleigh - ditto (amazingly)
Claud (no e) Butler - ditto, although the top end Galaxy is ferociously expensive
Cannondale - overpriced, and poor image, but half-decent bikes
GT - do they still make these?
Marin - see Cannondale - but with ghastly clunky design
Specialized - can't see the objection - the top end road bikes are really nice, and a lot less expensive than Italian. The 'Zertz insert' thing is a bit naff, though
Saracen - soon to be completely relaunched by Ridgeback, so may improve out of all recognition
Thorn - agreed. Never.
Dahon - since almost all the folding bikes in the world are made by Dahon and folders are here to stay you're on to a bit of a loser
Merida - haven't seen one in years
Giant - see Claud Butler above
Trek - agreed - poor design makes you wonder how they sell anything
ICE - got me there...

By and large what you buy with a brand is the paint and the decisions made by the designers about the equipment. In that respect I don't think there's anything to touch Ridgeback/Genesis, but they're all coming out of the same kind of factory, so it is possible to be a little eensy-weensy tiny bit too precious about these things.

If its cheap I can manage...

I always associated ADidas with Chav, but then I saya a GoreTex paclite jacket and matching Goretex Windstoper fleece in TKMax for £70 total. Both bright yellow and with reflectives.... and quality guarranteed by the Gore approval

At that price I have no brand disdain!

I dion't do too well here...
Dawes - Three (Galaxy Twin tandem, Horizon and KaraKum)
Raleigh We have two(bothfrom my childhood, a Phaser and a Wayfarer)
Any Claude Butler built after the death of Claude Butler
Cannondale - OK here
GT - OK here
Marin - OK here
Specialized - OK here
Saracen - Old Saracen Ruff Trax, resprayed in the 90's and still a workhorse
Thorn - Got two Raven Tour and Nomad
Dahon -OK
Merida - OK
Giant - Giant Hybrid
Trek - OK here
ICE - Almost, I sold a Peter Ross 1994 Trice about 18 months ago.

 You've just listed both my bikes.
I think the only bike I wouldn't be seen dead on is an Apollo, or some cheap crap from the likes of Tesco. Otherwise I'm not too fussy.
