Internal rear derailleur cable replacement on a Tarmac SL4 with a steel sleeve.... how?

My Roubaix SL4 has a plastic banana-shaped guide inserted into the exit hole for the rear deraiileur cable in the dropout, which is easily removed to allow easy rearwards threading of the inner cable, even without a cabling guide sleeve.

However my buddy's Tarmac SL4 only has a simple stainless steel insert which locates the outer cable ferrule. It might have got stuck in the dropout as my buddy's bike is in a mess but try as I might, I couldn't get it out of the frame, meaning re-threading the new inner cable backwards through the chainstay was a nightmare and we only found the small exit hole by a miracle.

Is it removable? How?

You can see the bright SS sleeve in this pic:

As far as I can remember it is just a slip-fit. Pull it out with your fingernails or perhaps a needlenose plier.

Oh I tried! My buddy's bike is in a mess with road salt - you should have seen the state of the steerer bearings and the alloy sleeves in the frame. I cleaned everything up then fitted the new bearings smeared with lanoline, which is far better than grease at protection from moisture. Also had a word with him about not washing the bike upside-down and not spraying water at it under pressure.

Well, you did a good job, it looks really clean. I have no other advice on that ferrule for now. I was pretty sure that it was just loose-fitting until now. Maybe a bigger hammer....
