Scotland is the only country where the most popular drink is not made by Coca-cola.

I was amazed when I found out that each paper size can be made by folding the size one up in half

very sensible
It works because the ratio of width to height is the square root of 2. A0 is 1m squared. From that all dimensions of all sizes can be worked out mathematically.

But what about the lost joy of old paper sizes.
That's a real Brexit bonus, we could go back to foolscap, quarto, Eagle, Elephant and so on

And the even more exotic

I don't think "An" paper sizes were a product of the EU?

The relevant standard has been in use in the UK since 1959 (originally a German DIN standard from 1921), and has been a UN standard since 1975.

Oh - and if we are looking at units of measurement the we needs to mention the most sensible system of all

The FFF system (look it up)

personally I would like my bike to read speed in Angstroms per century
then just hope I get stopped and asked what speed I was doing!

AFAIK, grain is still sold per Bushel in the USA. From Wikipedia: The old bushel is equal to 2 kennings, 4 pecks, or 8 dry gallons, and was used mostly for agricultural products, such as wheat. 1 Bushel is about 30kg but it's not clear if it differes (and how much) between different products

I had to look it up, and my first though when looking at the Wikipedia entry was "A firking isn't a unit of mass, it is a unit of volume".
Then I found the note at the end:
"The firkin of the FFF System is defined as the mass of an imperial firkin (9 imp gal) of water. The imperial gallon was originally defined as the volume of 10 lb of distilled water (weighed according to specific conditions). From this definition a density of 10 lb/imp gal is derived, giving the firkin of water a mass of 90 lb."

I used to be a programmer including system type stuff - on an operating system called VMS

There is a system parameter called TIMEPROMPTWAIT - and according to the manual it is measure in microfortnights
which I love!
