I am a BC Race Silver (More or less the same as Ride but with a provisional racing license) member at the moment, and had CTC the year before. I've not hit anyone, and I've not (really) been hit by anyone but knowing that you have the support there should you need it is very comforting, especially when a mere nudge can write off a bike if you're unlucky. With my first-time club discount (50%) and a 10% Direct Debit discount a year's membership was £18; I'm not sure if they'll smash me for £40 next year though.
If you regularly leave your bike unatended then insuring it under your home/contents insurance is a good idea too, depending on your policy (there are plenty of threads about that).
As for personal injury insurance, not many people seem to think this is really needed, and I have to agree; unless you're doing an awful lot of intense riding I wouldn't say you'd need it but obviously it's your choice.

CTC for me, mainly because I qualify for one of their half price concessions. Bikes themselves are insured separately.

Found out today that a friends mom had been knocked of her bike, just shows how vital it is!
